Software Predicts Cutting Tool Performance

Leaders-In background

Designed for manufacturers of cutting tools, Deform-3D is designed to analyze the influence of tool design, cutting parameters and tool wear on machining performance. The finite-element-based system can predict chip form, cutting forces, temperatures, tool wear, workpiece surface integrity and other parameters based on tool geometry, speed, feed, depth of cut and coolant. The software can model turning, milling, drilling, tapping, broaching and most other single- and multi-point cutting processes, the company says. A material library contains more than 50 materials, including common grades of steel, titanium, aluminum and superalloys.
