Software Adds 3D Modeling Capabilities
Several modeling capabilities have been added to version 5.8 of Third Wave Systems’ AdvantEdge FEM, a material-physics-based software designed to optimize metalcutting by providing machine process information about chip formation, temperatures, stresses and forces.
Several modeling capabilities have been added to version 5.8 of Third Wave Systems’ AdvantEdge FEM, a material-physics-based software designed to optimize metalcutting by providing machine process information about chip formation, temperatures, stresses and forces.
The software is capable of 3D modeling of orbital drilling in addition to milling, turning, drilling, boring, tapping and grooving. It also features 2D modeling of coolant pressure, enabling users to predict the influence of various coolant strategies on chip formation.
Also, 3D user-defined yield surface material modeling enables users to define their own materials, and frictional and contact model algorithm enhancements improve accuracy in 3D results.
