Walmart Open-Call Event Invites Manufacturers to Pitch U.S.-Made Products

Do you manufacture a consumer product that might be a candidate for sales through Walmart?

To meet its commitment to purchase an additional $250 billion in U.S. products through 2023, the company is hosting an open call for U.S. products in Bentonville, Arkansas, on June 28.

We learned of this event from the Reshoring Initiative, an organization founded to support the return of manufacturing work currently outsourced internationally. According to organization President Harry Mosier, “The United States has made good progress bringing jobs back since 2010, with reshoring and foreign direct investment announcements by thousands of companies totaling over 300,000 manufacturing jobs. These jobs represent over 30 percent of the 939,000 manufacturing jobs added from the low of February 2010 until March 2017.” Walmart’s commitment stands to make it a significant driver of further reshoring, he adds.

His organization offers tools and resources to aid companies in making supply chain sourcing decisions. For example, to analyze the feasibility of domestic manufacturing for a product intended for Walmart, the Initiative offers this free total cost of ownership (TCO) estimator.
