View MoreMachine tool supplier Mag-IAS produced this video to illustrate an efficient approach to titanium blisk production. Three technologies are in play here. One is trochoidal milling, in which a continually curving tool path preserves tool life by keeping the stress on the tool consistent. Another is Mag's cryogenic machining, which further extends tool life by delivering liquid nitrogen through the tool. (You can see liquid nitrogen leave the tool as a gas at various points in this video.) The third technology, of course, is five-axis machining. The machine seen here is the company's NBV 700 5X machining center.
