Spanish machine tool builder Ibarmia offers a moving-column machine that has an interesting table-within-a-table configuration. The long, main table on its ZVH machines has an integral C-axis rotary table that’s flush with the main one (note the image above). Combined with a B-axis tilting head, the rotary table permits full five-axis machining.

I first encountered this machine a few years ago at the BIEMH machine tool show in Bilbao, Spain. At the time, company representatives told me they were only able to use the rotary table to facilitate five-axis machining, but plans were in the works to enable turning. Well, those machines can turn now, too, as shown in this video.

Of course you don’t have to travel to the Basque region of Spain to learn more about this machine. Ibarmia equipment is available in the United States through United Precision Services in Cincinnati, Ohio.
