This Extrusion is Fed Through the Machining Center
Long, slender parts can be difficult to machine, especially when they are longer than the machine itself. Watch video of a part being processed by being fed through the machining center.
Chiron makes some very compact high-speed machining centers, and I have traditionally associated this company’s equipment with production parts that are also very compact. But in a recent conversation at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Charlotte, I learned how much success the company has been having recently with parts that are long—in fact, much longer than the machines.
In the company’s “Multi Profile System,” long and slender parts such as aircraft extrusions get fed through the machining center using a combination of both in-feed and out-feed devices.
