Workshops for Warriors provides vocational training for discharged veterans.

Share

As part of the nationwide Manufacturing Day on October 5, an organization in San Diego, California, with a special manufacturing-related mission will open its doors for a public presentation and facility tour. Workshops for Warriors (WFW) helps veterans make the transition into civilian life by providing them with free vocational education.

According to WFW, the unemployment rate for recently discharged veterans is routinely even higher than that of the population in general. Meanwhile, skilled manufacturing jobs go unfilled. The belief of WFW founder and former Navy officer Hernán Luis y Prado is that, through training, one problem can provide a solution for the other.

At the organization’s San Diego facility, veterans learn manufacturing skills on equipment including Haas CNC machining centers. Haas Automation, along with the Gene Haas foundation and the SME Education Foundation, is a supporter of the organization. Learn more about the October 5 tour and presentation here.
