Liebherr’s LGG 180 machine for profile and generating grinding is said to provide short grinding times and consistent high quality for large-scale production. The machine is capable of grinding gearing components such as those used for passenger vehicle transmissions, including planetary gears, sun gears, bore-type gears, and drive and pinion shafts ranging to 500 mm in length. Its compact size enables installation within production lines, the company says.

The grinder’s one-table design also is said to provide reliability in finish quality. The grinding head enables rotation speeds ranging to 10,000 rpm and offers 35 kW of spindle power. The machine is capable of high cutting speeds and feed rates, and undulations can be applied specifically to gear wheel flanks for noise optimization.
