Designed for high productivity, Mazak’s Vertical Center Universal (VCU) 500A is a small-footprint, three-axis machining center capable of processing workpieces ranging to 19.68" × 19.68" × 9.84". It also can be equipped with a two-pallet changer to increase spindle utilization and enable continuous production. The machine is controlled with Mazak’s Smart CNC designed to shorten job setup times.
The VMC features a high-performance, 10,000-rpm CAT 40-taper spindle suitable for machining materials including steel, aluminum and cast iron, and can be equipped with a 12,000- or 20,000-rpm spindle as an option. A cam-driven automatic toolchanger is said to reduce non-cut times, and tool monitoring on the machine promotes efficiency and lowers operating costs via early problem detection, the company says. Tool storage capacities of 30 or 40 tools are available to ensure continuous machining operation and increase versatility.
The Mazak MX hybrid roller guide system promotes durability and reliability for long-term accuracy, the company says, and the VMC’s way system damps vibration and extends tool life while handling high load capacities. The way system also eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by utilizing a grease-based lubrication system.
