Scientific Cutting Tools' Port Tools Provide Smooth Surface Finish
The AS5202-X and SAEJ1926-X series of port tools are ideal for nonstandard thread minor diameters and lengths.
Scientific Cutting Tools’ AS5202-X series is a new style of port tools that meets the requirements of AS5202, MS33649 and AND10050 port specifications. Additionally, the company has also launched its SAEJ1926-X series of port tools that meet the SAEJ1926/1 and MS16142 port specifications.
The AS5202-X will cut the required spot face and counterbore only, while the SAEJ1926-X will cut the required spot face and O-Ring taper only; neither tool series will cut the thread minor diameter. These tool offerings are said to be ideal for nonstandard thread minor diameters and lengths. The tools have three flutes, enable through-coolant machining and do not have a pilot diameter.
A coolant hole in each flute aids with increased chip evacuation, higher speeds and feeds and longer tool life. The polished flute faces optimize performance for a smoother surface finish. The body of the port tools are made of heat-treated alloy steel, and the brazed inserts are made of premium submicron carbide. Tools are available either uncoated or AlTiN+ coated. For ferrous and hard-to-machine materials, the company recommends the coated version.
